Seminar: The Global Health Footprint of Development

Description: The Global Alliance on Health and Pollution (GAHP) will host a short seminar at the European Union Parliament in collaboration with Member of Parliament Michele Rivasi, the World Bank, the Health and Environment Alliance (HEAL) and the European Cancer Leagues to raise awareness about the burden of disease from chemicals, wastes and toxic pollution, and how it relates to larger development issues. GAHP: A Practical Tool for Successful Implementation of the Minamata Convention on Mercury

Description: The Global Alliance on Health and Pollution (GAHP) will host a side event on at the Diplomatic Conference for the Mercury Convention in Minamata, Japan.

“GAHP: A Practical Tool for Successful Implementation of the Minamata Convention on Mercury” — An Introduction to the GAHP, highlighting how GAHP can be used as a practical tool to assist countries to meet their obligations under the new Minamata Convention and to find technical and financial resources to reduce mercury emissions and mitigate human health risks from mercury-contaminated sites. The event will also present examples of successful on-the-ground projects conducted by two GAHP members: UNIDO and Indonesian Ministry of Environment. Lunch will be provided.
